Department of Paediatric Neurosurgery
The Department of Paediatric Neurosurgery is particularly renowned for the evaluation and surgical treatment of intractable epilepsy in infants and children. Epilepsy is the most common chronic neurological disease in children. Very often, the course of this disease is favourable, but in some cases, seizures persist several times a month or several times a week despite medical treatment, leading to what is known as drug-resistant or intractable epilepsy. It is in these cases that surgery may be indicated. Specialist consultations and a large number of tests are needed to assess these epilepsies and determine the indications for surgery. The aim is to cure epilepsy and, if possible, to stop antiepileptic treatments.
